The leaves on the trees shook madly as hundreds of cawing crows left their dome. The forest was silent afterwards. Gloom and darkness sprawled thorough the entire area. Not a single glow of light could be seen anywhere in the absolute darkness. Our footsteps echoed loudly in the hollow forest. We panted as we ran deeper, trying to evade early death by the evil witches. As we ran, my long, straight, chestnut brown hair and Analeigh’s shoulder length straight thunder black hair flew behind us. The cold dusk air was sharp, hitting our faces and with every breath we took, our lungs seem to tear more and more. “Come on, Anna! Just a little bit more!” I urged Analeigh to run just a little further. “I can’t, Elle… let’s just rest. I’m sure we lost them. Our energy…is running…out…” I stared at her in dismay because I know she’s right. Anna didn’t need to read my mind to know she won the battle. “I’m going to find water…be right back..” she muttered, blindly waving her hands in front of her as she stumbled and stopped near a huge tree trunk. In a second, she vanished behind it and I could hear water splashing nearby.
My knees gave away and I crumbled. I decided to just lie down on the cool grass and closed my eyes. The stars disappeared and then I fell into an even greater darkness.
“Aaaaaahhhhh!!!!”
Analeigh’s scream woke me from my short sleep and my eyes snapped open before squinting again. It’s daylight. I hopped on my feet and dashed to the place I last saw my sister.
It was a wide open space with a lake in the middle. There she was. But she wasn’t alone. My blood froze and I felt a shiver down my spine when I saw who it was.
Valerius. She’s back.
I caught Ana’s piercing light blue eyes stare at me for a nanosecond before flitting back to Valerius with a murderous look. Her back was turned to me. Without wasting any time, I performed a silent spell and a purple fireball appeared in my right palm. I aimed at Valerius and threw it. Just before it hit her, she turned back can caught it. “Ha! Didn’t think I’d be that easy did you, Ellorie?”
I look at her with my deepest loathing look. “ How come you’re up and about, traitor?” Valerius sneered her bloody red lips and her chalky white face gained about a thousand wrinkles. “Oh, didn’t you know? I woke up yesterday to kill you little brats!” She summoned the dark air and it surrounded her before she blew it and it scattered to the area. I knew better than to breathe in the toxic so I covered my nose and headed to Anna, my position obscured by the thick black mass of fog. I felt a strong grip on my wrist and Anna’s eyes looked into mine. I nodded and together, we whispered, “Elcåtradasinkasedura!” a white ball of light appeared in both our palms and we fused them before aiming to the dark shadow. A shriek came out but we kept on concentrating. The beam of light cleared the darkness away to show us a snarling Valerius with her usual black hair now going up. I would’ve laughed it the situation wasn’t so serious. Soon, beads of sweat dripped down my brow. Valerius closed her eyes and a shield appeared out of nowhere and our beam of light was repelled. Valerius cackled, “oh that was just appetizer little dearies…now eat this!” I got up in time to see a massive ball darkness collected on her palms, crackling with electricity and thunder, swirling ever so dangerously yet mesmerizingly. Her body was lifted a few inches off the ground and her empty black irises rolled to the back of her head. Her mouth was open and smoke poured out of it. Oh no. Not that one.
